Cheap Tickets

The price of going to the Newsboys is now only 33 dollars each. That is concert and hotel for 33 dollars a person.

Newsboys ticket

I officially have one ticet availible for the Newsboys. The cost is 68 dollars. First come first serve here is the info:

Details for Newsboys Trip:

We will be leaving from the church Saturday Nov. 3 @ 8:30AM.

You are required to present your proof of citizenship (passport or birth certificate plus valid picture ID) prior to leaving the church or YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COME and won't get your money back. Also, you must have already passed in your permission slip and hotel money.

We will be traveling straight through to Bangor Maine where we'll have some time to shop at the Bangor Mall in the afternoon before traveling the last hour on to Augusta Maine.

Supper on Saturday night will be at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Augusta at 5:00pm EST before getting to the concert at the Augusta Civic Centre which begins at 7pm EST.

We are spending the night at the Augusta Holiday Inn (front desk phone: 207-622-4751)

Daylight Savings Time ends so we gain an hour of sleep :o)

We're not on a set schedule for Sunday so you will have the option of sleeping in a little. We will be missing church while we're in the States. As a result, EVERYONE MAKING THE TRIP IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE when we get back to Fredericton on November 4th. It will be taking place at starting at 6:30 at Grace Memorial Baptist Church. Please make arrangements to have a way home after Sunday Night Live. If you cannot attend, your parents may pick you up in Fredericton upon our arrival.

It is recommended that you make every effort to have homework done on Friday night since we will be leaving early Saturday until Sunday Night Live finishes around 8:30.

It would be helpful that you purchase some American money before the trip. Debit is not always available and the exchange rate being offered in the U.S. to Canadians is much lower than what you can get here. You will need money for lunch & supper Saturday and all meals Sunday. If you wish to have spending money for the mall you may bring additional money.

Keep in mind that all receipts for purchases coming back into Canada must be kept and declared when crossing customs. You may have to pay tax and / or duty when we return to Canada. Items purchased for personal use that were made in the U.S. or Canada do not require that you pay duty.

If you take any prescription or over-the-counter medications, make sure they are packed in their original vial with the prescription label or their original container.

Whats up in the world?... News you need to know

Hey guys, just spreading the word to you.... word!. Because next week Dan and Darrell will be travelling to Deer Island for Camp (where you should be) there will be many cancellations happening. The usual happenings of Monday consisting of "The X" and "Macaroni Monday" itself will not be happening on July 23rd. Also while they are away, it would be difficult to do Hockey Night In Burtt's Corner, especially because of the lacking in attendance. Therefore if you attend Hockey Night In Burtt's Corner on Tuesdays, it is cancelled on July 24th.
After this week, we will return to our usual weekly meetings and as far as I know, that will be the end of the cancellations, as this camp will mark the end of Camp seasons for the summer. To those who are going to camp, hope you have lots of fun. Camp is a great experience, enjoy every moment. Those who are'nt going, maybe you can still go if you try hard to arrange something, but if not... I Strongly encourage you to attend next year, its a blast! I guarantee that.
God Bless! See you all soon!

Reminder to the Forgetful "X"

FUNdraisers! Woot!

Things you need to know
Hey guys, on Monday night when we met, there were lots of people worried about delivering their Baked goods to the Church and we have found a solution. If you wish to bring your baked goods Friday, June 22nd to the Church, there will be someone here to receive those delightful yummies! tonight.
If you intend to bring your goodies tonight, then come to the Church anytime from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and Darrell should be there to eat, I mean take your goodies from you.
Perhaps you do not trust Darrell, not to eat the baked goods you have and you wish to instead just bring them at the Fundraiser, bring them, along with you on Saturday morning at 8:30am. This is very important for you to be involved with and unless you are out camping and have been eaten by Yogi Bear, we expect that all will take part.
I will see you tonight when you bring your goodies to me... (As I laugh evilly) or tomarrow as you give the goods to strangers.

Dan and Janelle are very sad that they cannot be there tonight but they are tragically soaking up the sun in Cozumel Mexico. Please pray for them during these stressful times. In seriousness pray for safe travel and Janelle’s sanity having to spend so much constant time with Dan. See you when we get back!!!!

Reasons you should come visit Dan in his office this summer!

7. It will give you a much needed break from MSN and Facebook

8. He will let you make fun of Darrell

9. He is willing to eat the left over cake from your house

10. He will let you do his work for him

11. He has a cool couch to lounge in while you soak in his wisdom… or whatever he happens to be saying

12. He wants you to

13. You want to

14. Your Mom thinks he’s cool

15. You think he’s cool

16. What in the world do you have better to do right?

Hockey Night In Burtt's Corner Cancelled

HNIBC Cancelled and Rescheduled to a Later Date
First of all I would like to apologize for the inconvenience on my part. There is a lot going on right now in the Church and your patience is appreciated. Hockey Night will take place on a Tuesday evening, just not this week... although it will begin on May 22nd which is next Tuesday night.
I realize how much this means to everyone and how excited everyone is, but I feel that our support belongs somewhere else on this evening. I again apologize for the inconvenience and Hope you will all come out when the doors reopen next week.
For those who have long awaited, again I hope this is not something that disappoints you, but rather something that helps you to look forward to next week, with further anticipation.
See you then! God Bless!

Conference INFO

We will kick off the festivities of the weekend with a “Fear Factor” style challenge for allyouth groups. Each group will need to pick a champion to fight for them. They will compete through disgusting eating challenges and trust challenges to gain the title “Omega Champ.”

As we did last year there will be an open mic on Saturday night where the youth or youth leaders can showcase a talent. Clean, appropriate jokes; songs; skits; ramblings and of course stupid human tricks are welcomed and encouraged. There will be a sign up sheet at the registration desk. We will be accepting sign ups for this event until 5 pm on sat May 19.

Also on the Saturday we will be having a Value Village Challenge. The Saturday afternoon is free - time. In this time your youth group is encouraged to go to a salvation army store or a value village and purchase a hilarious outfit. Here are the rules: You may spend no more than $10. The receipts must be kept in order to prove the cost. The outfits will be judged by our panel of judges consisting of the weekend speakers. The top three outfits will compete in a final fashion showdown where the individuals will have to dance. The winner of the competition wins a prize and his/her youth group will be crowned “Kings of the Conference.” A mighty honor indeed.

Hockey Night Will Begin!

Finally! it is time to begin...
All will begin for the 2007 season of Hockey Night In Burtt's Corner on Tuesday, May 15th/2007. Things fell thru with Wednesday, so my apologies on that note, but hopefully during the summer, we will be able to switch the night to Wednesdays.
So Tuesdays may be just temporary, but we will be meeting next Tuesday from 6:00pm-8:35pm. Hope you are able to be there. All are invited, playing or not.o
The cost to play is $5.00 per player and $3.50 per goalie.
See you there!

Spider-Man 3

Yo Yo Yo, I went to see Spider-Man 3 at 12:01 last night and it was awesome so we are going! We will be going to the 6:55 show on Monday night at the Regent Mall. Where it is a new movie I encourage you to get your ticket over the week end if you can. If you can tell me FOR SURE that you are coming I can pick up your ticket for you. Tickts are $7.95.

We will be LEAVING the church at 6:00 on Monday evening, that means if you pull in the driveway at 6:01 you will be too late so BE THERE!!!

Disclaimer: The movie is good and clean, but does contain scenes of violence (he is a crime fighter right?) and the villains are monstrous. I will try to post the Focus on the Family review as soon as it becomes available.

Here is the preview:

Spaghetti Supper

Saturday April 28 –We will be having a Spaghetti Dinner as a FUND RAISER! It will be from 4:00-6:00. You will be required to be here to help prepare, serve and then clean up after. Remember that in order to do fun things that cost money we need to raise some so your help is what keeps these things happening! We are also asking that you ask your parents to make squares or brownies to provide for desert. Also, when you come to help with the spaghetti dinner you will be required to where black pants and a white top so you will all look nice and the same! You will need to be HERE by 1:00pm on Saturday to get everything ready. Come in your “cooking” clothes and bring your “serving clothes” to change into. Any questions?

YOUTH CONFERENCE!!

I didn't receive very many forms tonight! If you want to go to the conference then you had better make arrangements with me!!! Talk to you soon!

Note the amount of updates on this thing! Youth begins to think, "Wow, not only is Dan handsome and intelligent beyond all reason but he is also a diligent worker and scholar. Truly an outstanding hero of a citizen. I think I will now resolve to make this blog my homepage and buy Dan that expensive gift that I was thinking of getting him."

WOW!

Here is the DEAL yo!

Wow, this blog is awesome!! Look at how often it is updated. Right now I know you are thinking "I should check this more often, like everyday, maybe I will make it my home page and hang up a picture of Dan in my room after I brush my teeth and take out the garbage..."

Anyways, TOMORROW between 6:15pm and 6:45pm you can bring in your conference forms and money to the FRONT DOORS. If this ABSOLUTELY cannot work for you please contact me and we will have to make arrangements.

ALSO- the NEW regestration cost is $90.00!!!! Make cheques out to the Burtt's Corner Church of Christ.

Sorry for the confusion...

Sorry for the confusion everyone! I ended up in Fredericton when youth group was canceled and my beloved laptop was in BC in my office so I couldn't do all the stuff I usually would. That is also why I couldn't respond to your MSN messages as well. I will post the info on getting conference stuff to me soon so make sure you check back and check out that youth ministry video I posted yesterday!

Youth Group Cancelled because of Freezing Rain...

Hey Guys Dan has told me to spread the news to you that youth group tonight is cancelled because of whether. He was unable to send this message because he had no access to a computer.
Also just a side note of youth group being cancelled. If you have conference permission slips. Keswick Valley Students have your permission slips with you at school for Dan to pick up from you. Leo Hayes Students bring your permission slips to YFC on Thursday and Naackawic students, Dan will keep in touch with you about your slips.
Anyway, see you all soon!
God Bless!

As it says at the top of the screen no matter what, the middle school portion of the "X" meets from 6:30 to 8:00 and the high school portion meets from 8:00-9:30. The only time this is not the case is on the first Monday of the month. For example: The next combined youth will be on May 7th. See how it works?

In other important news the cost of registration for the spring conference is 110 dollars as indicated on the info sheet sent home with the registration forms.

Please comment if you have any questions.

The Pajama Game

Leo Hayes High School is excited to present their 9th full-scale musical production - The Pajama Game! In The Pajama Game, employees of the Sleeptite Pajama Factory are looking for a whopping seven-and-a-half cent an hour increase and they won't take no for an answer. Babe Williams is their feisty employee representative but she may have found her match in shop superintendent Sid Sorokin. When the two get together they wind up discussing a whole lot more than job actions! The original production won a Tony for best musical, and the most recent revival won a Tony Award for best revival.

If you haven't got tickets yet, you should go see the show as a number of our youth group are involved!

Relax

In light of the recent comments on the previous post allow me to rebut. I had always intended on having youth group next week so you can all plan on being there. I am glad to see your enthusiasm about youth group, I don't like missing it either. I was disappointed by some of the comments I have been receiving however. Especially that the "X" always gives the students from Nackiwic the short end of the stick. I don't believe that is the case and would shudder to think that anyone feels that way. I can't really think of how the recent cancellations of youth group do that since they were due to weather.

In the future, if anyone has a beef with youth group, it would be better to send me an email rather than a public comment. Thanks.

There Is Actually Youth Tonight!

I just thought I should post something here so that no one would check the blog and see "Sorry guys, no youth!

Anyways the first person to comment on this post will WIN a... pop from Dan's MINI FRIDGE!!!

Monday, January 15, 2007

Sorry Guys...

Sorry Guys, but due to the weather, we are going to have to cancel Youth Group agains this week! I am really sorry but as you can see----> we are under a winter storm warning.

Here was the only real important notice in the newsletter:

Monday Jan 22 – There will be no HIGH SCHOOL youth group because of EXAMS! That is right, when you have to write huge tests in math, English, science, physics, cheese appreciation, chemistry, biology, BBT, Phys Ed, music, bird watching, art, media studies, history, underwater fire prevention, world issues, theatre arts, law or anything of the sort you need all the study time you can get! Good Luck! – Jr. High youth is still on.

In consideration of exams coming up next week, I thought this would be fun!

50 fun things to do durning an exam.

1. Bring a pillow. Fall asleep (or pretend to) until the last 15 minutes. Wake up, say "oh geez, better get cracking" and do some gibberish work. Turn it in a few minutes early.

2. Get a copy of the exam, run out screaming "Andre, Andre, I've got the secret documents!!"

3. If it is a math/science exam, answer in essay form. If it is long answer/essay form, answer with numbers and symbols. Be creative. Use the integral symbol.

4. Make paper airplanes out of the exam. Aim them at the instructor's left nostril.

5. Talk the entire way through the exam. Read questions aloud, debate your answers with yourself out loud. If asked to stop, yell out, "I'm SOOO sure you can hear me thinking." Then start talking about what a jerk the instructor is.

6. Bring cheerleaders.

7. Walk in, get the exam, sit down. About five minutes into it, loudly say to the instructor, "I don't understand ANY of this. I've been to every lecture all semester long! What's the deal? And who the heck are you? Where's the regular guy?"

8. Bring a Game Boy (or Game Gear, etc...). Play with the volume at max level.

9. On the answer sheet (book, whatever) find a new, interesting way to refuse to answer every question. For example: I refuse to answer this question on the grounds that it conflicts with my religious beliefs. Be creative.

10. Bring pets.

11. Run into the exam room looking about frantically. Breathe a sigh of relief. Go to the instructor, say "They've found me, I have to leave the country" and run off.

12. Fifteen minutes into the exam, stand up, rip up all the papers into very small pieces, throw them into the air and yell out "Merry Christmas." If you're really daring, ask for another copy of the exam. Say you lost the first one. Repeat this process every fifteen minutes.

13. Do the exam with crayons, paint, or fluorescent markers.

14. Come into the exam wearing slippers, a bathrobe, a towel on your head, and nothing else.

15. Send a replacement wearing your clothes and a name tag (this works better if you send a member of the oppisite sex)

16. Do the entire exam in another language. If you don't know one, make one up! For math/science exams, try using Roman numerals.

17. Bring things to throw at the instructor when s/he's not looking. Blame it on the person nearest to you.

18. As soon as the instructor hands you the exam, eat it.

19. Walk into the exam with an entourage. Claim you are going to be taping your next video during the exam. Try to get the instructor to let them stay, be persuasive. Tell the instructor to expect a percentage of the profits if they are allowed to stay.

20. Every five minutes, stand up, collect all your things, move to another seat, continue with the exam.

21. Turn in the exam approximately 30 minutes into it. As you walk out, start commenting on how easy it was.

22. Do the entire exam as if it was multiple choice and true/false. If it is a multiple choice exam, spell out interesting things (DAD. BABE. etc..).

23. Bring a black marker. Return the exam with all questions and answers completely blacked out.

24. Get the exam. Twenty minutes into it, throw your papers down violently, scream out "Foget this!" and walk out triumphantly.

25. Arrange a protest before the exam starts (i.e. Threaten the instructor that whether or not everyone's done, they are all leaving after one hour to go play tag)

26. Show up completely wiped. (This means you should have already been up for 30 to 40 hours.)

27. Every now and then, clap twice rapidly. If the instructor asks why, tell him/her in a very derogatory tone, "the light bulb that goes on above my head when I get an idea is hooked up to a clapper. DUH!"

28. Comment on how handsome/pretty the instructor is looking that day. 29. Come to the exam wearing a black cloak. After about 30 minutes, put on a white mask and start yelling "I'm here, the phantom of the opera" until they drag you away.

30. Go to an exam for a class you have no clue about, where you know the class is very small, and the instructor would recognize you if you belonged. Claim that you have been to every lecture. Fight for your right to take the exam.

31. Upon receiving the exam, look it over, while laughing loudly, say "you don't really expect me to waste my time on this drivel? Days of our Lives is on!!!"

32. Bring a water pistol with you. Nuff said.

33. From the moment the exam begins, hum the theme to Jeopardy. Ignore the instructor's requests for you to stop. When they finally get you to leave one way or another, begin whistling the theme your favorite Children’s show. (Winnie the Pooh etc.)

34. Start a brawl in the middle of the exam.

35. If the exam is math/science related, make up the longest proofs you could possibly think of. Get pi and imaginary numbers into most equations. If it is a written exam, relate everything to your own life story.

36. Come in wearing a full knight's outfit, complete with sword and shield.

37. Bring a friend to give you a back massage the entire way through the exam. Insist this person is needed, because you have bad circulation.

38. Bring cheat sheets FOR ANOTHER CLASS (make sure this is obvious... like history notes for a calculus exam... otherwise you're not just failing, you're getting kicked out too) and staple them to the exam, with the comment "Please use the attached notes for references as you see fit."

39. When you walk in, complain about the cold. Keep adding layers, sweaters, jackets parkas etc.
40. After you get the exam, call the instructor over, point to any question, ask for the answer. Try to work it out of him/her.

41. One word: Wrestlemania.

42. Bring balloons, blow them up, start throwing them around like they do before concerts start.

43. Try to get people in the room to do the wave.

44. Play frisbee with a friend at the other side of the room.

45. Bring some large, cumbersome, ugly idol. Put it right next to you. Speak to it often. Consider a small sacrifice.

46. Get deliveries of candy, flowers, balloons, telegrams, etc... sent to you every few minutes throughout the exam.

47. During the exam, take apart everything around you. Desks, chairs, anything you can reach.

48. Complete the exam with everything you write being backwards at a 90 degree angle.

49. Bring a musical instrument with you, play various tunes. If you are asked to stop, say "it helps me think." Bring a copy of the Student Handbook with you, challenging the instructor to find the section on musical instruments during finals. Don't forget to use the phrase "Told you so".

50. Answer the exam with the "Top Ten Reasons Why Professor xxxx Sucks"

DISCLAIMER: It is the opinion of the editor of this website that none of the above is a good idea!

You Know The Drill

Walka walka doo doo yeah! Ahem. As you all know there is no school today because of snow! Yea!!! This also means that there is no youth group tonight... Boooo! Sorry Lori!

Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad eh. Enjoy your day off!

Bored? Try these:

Blink wildly and then close your eyes really tight for an interesting light show
(Amusement Potential: 1-5 minutes)
See a variety of blobs, stars and flashes. Try to make out shapes and see if your subconscious is trying to send you a message (perhaps that funny shape is saying, 'send all your money to Dan?)

See how long you can hold a note
(Amusement Potential: 4-20 minutes)
Not that much fun, but it sure passes the time. Play with a friend, or try to beat your own personal best. Inhale deeply and then try and make a noise for as long as you can. Earn extra points for making your partner laugh or ending on an amusing note.

Try to not think about penguins
(Amusement Potential: 1-5 minutes)
This is especially hard, because by trying too much, you remember what you were trying to avoid thinking of. If you try too little, you end up thinking about penguins anyway.

Use your secret mind power
(Amusement Potential: 5-10 minutes)
Pick a passing by and try to use your mind power to command them do something, like drop their bag or knock into someone. The law of averages dictates that sooner or later one of your mind commands will come true, so you can convince yourself that you really have super human powers and waste even more time trying them out.

Scratch yourself
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes)
Go ahead, scratch yourself now. Even if nothing itches, go ahead. Doesn't that feel pretty good?

Repeat the same word over and over until it loses its meaning
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes)
Pick a random word out of a magazine and say it aloud to yourself until it becomes a meaningless set of noises.

Hurt yourself
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes)
What is pain? Why is it unpleasant? There's nothing physical about it - it's all in your mind. Plus, after pinching yourself for awhile, boredom will seem nice next to being in pain.

Try to swallow your tongue
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes)
There's not much to say about this one. It is possible, but really stupid.

Pretend to be a car
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes)
Make appropriate revving noises in your head as you walk along and add a racing commentary as you pass strangers in the street. Use blinking eyes as indicators for extra authenticity.

Look at something for awhile, shut eyes, study after image
(Amusement Potential: 2-5 minutes)
Another great time waster. It takes about 30 seconds of staring to create an after image, and the image is then viewable for about the same length of time. Fun to combine this one with pushing on your eyes.

Get yourself as nauseated as possible
(Amusement Potential: 5-10 minutes)
Best achieved by looking straight up and spinning around. Try to be so dizzy you can't even stand up. This is also entertaining due to the "makes boredom seem a lot better" effect (see "Hurt Yourself").

Invent a weird twitch
(Amusement Potential: 5-10 minutes)
Adopt a bizarre twitch (e.g. flicking your head irregularly, twitching with eye or busting out sporadic cough noises) and try it out when you go shopping.

Make a low buzzing noise
(Amusement Potential: 15-30 minutes)
Hours of fun in libraries! Keeping a totally straight face and looking nonchalant, make a low pitch humming/buzzing noise and see who reacts.

Have a good day!

New Year

Hey Guys, Happy New Year!!! Well the break is over and you know what that means! That's right its time to buy Dan an expensive gift! Just kidding, but tomorrow night is the first Sunday Night Live of the New Year. It will be at Nasis United so make sure you are here at the church by 5:30 Sunday Afternoon if you would like to come.

Also Monday is the first Youth Group of the new year and we will be meeting as usual with the Middle School group at 6:30pm and the High School group at 8:00pm.
